What is theft?

Theft is a criminal act that involves the unlawful taking or depriving of another person's property. It is a broad legal term that includes various types of crimes where property is taken with the intention of depriving the rightful owner of it.

How do I report theft?

• Call 9-1-1 if your immediate safety is at risk.
• If there is no immediate safety risk, and you saw the suspect, or there is physical evidence (texts, videos, audio recordings) of an offence, call your local police non-emergency number.
• If the value of stolen properties is under $10,000, you can also report the theft online through your local police department online reporting portal.
