Missing Person
If you're missing someone, it's completely normal to feel a range of emotions. Whether it's a friend, family member, or someone else close to you, the ache of their absence can be overwhelming at times. We strongly encourage you to reach out for help.
When should I report?
- Anyone can report a missing person in B.C anytime. There is no waiting period needed.
Where should I report?
- For Vancouver, please contact VPD non-emergency number at (604) 717-3321. For other cities, please contact local police agency non-emergency number.
- If you have concerns about the immediate safety of the missing person, including children, seniors, individuals with mental or physical challenges, or anyone you suspect may be suicidal. If so, contact 9-1-1.
What can I expect?
- VPD will start an investigation immediately. Officers will ask for physical description, physical or mental health or emotional state, and their lifestyle. A risk assessment focused on the well-being and safety of the missing person will be conducted.
- Throughout the investigation, you will be informed and provided information about available support services. A dedicated contact person from the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) will be assigned to facilitate communication.
- Your privacy is important and VPD will consult you or your family before releasing any information or photographs of the missing person to the media.
- The location where a missing adult is found will not be disclosed without their explicit consent.
- Cases remain active until the missing person is located and their identity is confirmed.
