What is victim services?

Victim services is a dedicated program to support victims of crime. Our victim services workers are specifically trained to provide support, information, and referrals for individuals who have been impacted by crime. Our mandate supports Chinese-speaking individuals, specifically.

We are a community based victim service, which means you DO NOT have to report to the police to receive support from us. Although we work in partnership with the Vancouver Police Department, we WILL NOT provide any information to any other party without your explicit consent. Exception will be a court subpoena.

Services we provided?

Emotional support:

  • Being impacted by crime is often traumatizing and distressing. Victims of crime often experience sleeplessness, sadness, anger, grief, isolation, and an overwhelming sense of loss. Our victim services workers provide emotional support to help alleviate some of these symptoms.

Practical support:

  • Our victim services workers help with safety planning, victim impact statements, Crime Victim Assistance Program (CVAP) applications, court accompaniment, court preparation, and court updates. We can also support you in connecting with police and court personnel.

Information and Referrals:

  • Our victim services workers are knowledgeable about and can provide information regarding the process of the criminal justice system. We can also connect you with services such as counseling, housing assistance, financial benefits, and/or legal aid.
